Research on Education, Deliberation, and Decision-making

Americans have long recognized that education plays an important role in society as a means of achieving personal growth, economic success, and even democracy itself. Yet these lofty goals often confront harsh realities when local communities make decisions about educating youth. Seeking to better understand these realities, the REDD project explores policy deliberations in three school districts in Wisconsin: Beloit, Elmbrook, and West Bend. We investigate the ways that local stakeholders reach decisions about education. We explore the reasons and evidence they provide to support their positions, as well as the values to which they implicitly and explicitly appeal.
