Improving Family Interview of Empowering Families Milwaukee Home Visiting Program

Katherine Magnuson is conducting research with the Milwaukee Department of Health to improve their Empowering Families Milwaukee (EFM) home visiting program. Home visiting programs offer a variety of services to pregnant mothers and families with new babies and young children to address issues such as maternal and child health and positive parenting practices. The effectiveness of the Ecocultural Family Interview (EFI), a conversational interview with clients about family functioning, and other programs is being evaluated by a random assignment study. Magnuson helped EFM staff implement the EFI and is serving as the primary evaluator of the EFI component of the program.

Outcomes

Prof. Magnuson's assistance has enabled the Milwaukee Department of Health to hone their home visiting program for vulnerable families with infants and young children based on research evidence and therefore provide effective services to ensure child safety and improve parenting and family outcomes.
