Fighting Autism

Associate Dean of the College of Letters and Science Susan Ellis Weismer is investigating early language development and is seeking predictors of kindergarten outcomes in young children on the autism spectrum. The Toddler Talk Project examines early communication and language skills in toddlers. Her other projects include the Early Language Learning Project which is focused on examining linguistic processing abilities of toddlers with late onset of language development compared to those with typical patterns of language acquisition.

Outcomes

Weismer’s federally funded research projects provide more than 120 Wisconsin families of children with suspected autism with a free diagnostic evaluation and annual reassessments. Families also receive assessment reports, resource materials, and contacts for intervention services.
