Art graduate connects campus, schools with outreach endowment

Developed by Tom Loeser and funded by Helen Burish, these art workshops seek to provide high school art teachers with hands-on professional development while giving graduate students and faculty members a chance to share their experiences and expertise. Past workshops have had teachers tour campus facilities, meet students and faculty, learn about the department's curriculum, and explore innovative techniques.

Outcomes

With the success of the pilot workshop, Burish and Loeser have developed another workshop with Ken Derengowski. Burish's financial assistance will also allow graduate students to visit local high schools each semester for short-term residencies as well as bring high school students to the department for graduate student-led workshops. The workshop provides local high school teachers the opportunity to learn new techniques and connect with the university through the workshops and graduate student and faculty connections.
