Masters of Story Time: A Collection of Early Literacy Techniques

The School of Library & Information Studies, Continuing Education Services is one of the largest providers of continuing education in library and information studies in the nation. The program offers a wealth of opportunities to enrich continuing education studies through practical workshops, conferences and study tours, both face-to-face and online. The program is planning to extend their outreach efforts even further into the library community by producing a series of educational training DVDs designed to be used for staff in-service and for outreach.

Outcomes

This project was distributed free of charge to 488 public libraries in Wisconsin. The statewide audience consists of, primarily, children’s librarians, but also including some day care providers and library school students. By watching and practicing the techniques on the DVD, all participants and observers can acquire a working knowledge of how to enhance a story time with early literacy components. This project has the potential to enhance the early literacy skills of thousands of Wisconsin children.
